Our progams
For over a decade, UKSD has used sports and movement to educate young people about social issues, while also building life and social skills. This has been done by creating opportunities that allow our youth leaders to be active citizens and productive members of society through community service endeavors.
When working with teens in our communities and others, we find it imperative to demonstrate the importance of action based citizenship. Our Projects Through Play Program is designed to work with young people to help them create their own civics projects through sports, movement, and games. We work with either individual students or small groups of students to create projects which are linked with our KidzPlay4Free Partners.
These projects not only allow for cultural exchange and connections, but they also give participants the opportunity to gain the hands-on experience of creating a project and seeing it through from conception to completion.
The students who participate in our Projects Through Play Program are required to take part in the following trainings, where they begin to explore various leadership skills and become active participants in each and every step of the project they have been selected to be part of.
(Step 1) – 4/6 weeks commitment – online/in-person- will focus on soft skills, social awareness, introduction to civics and UN Sustainable Goals ( UNSDGs) etc.
(Step 2) – 6/8 weeks – online/in-person – will take participants through a more intensive local and global education in connection to the community their project will impact – introduce cohorts to KP4FP groups virtually to gain first hand experience.
Workshops and Professional Development for schools, colleges, teams, and youth organizations – students/athletes and teachers/coaches.
Curriculum Writing for schools and sports organizations.
An important tenet of our PTP Program is that we want to ensure that we allow students of all skills and abilities to be given the opportunity to participate.
We have found that students become more engaged in school and feel a deeper sense of connection and belonging when they are given the opportunity to use sport to create change.
Involvement in these projects helps students discover their leadership potential, gives them tools to improve their physical and mental well-being, enables them to build their soft skills, and it can be the difference between their commitment to their education and future or choosing a less beneficial path.
What we do
Through sports and movement, UKSD focuses on educating our participants about social issues that affect young people both locally and across the globe. These points of education are aligned with topics from the U.N. sustainable development goals. It is our mission to educate and create leadership opportunities through community service projects based on the topics below, in an effort for our members to become leaders and be the change they wish to see in the world.
