Our progams
For over a decade, UKSD has used sports and movement to educate young people about social issues, while also building life and social skills. This has been done by creating opportunities that allow our youth leaders to be active citizens and productive members of society through community service endeavors.
As our program has evolved, we have created our very own methodology that allows these leaders to create their own initiatives to build the world in which they want to live…this is called ‘Projects Through Play’.
Our Projects Through Play model combines experiential education, purposeful play, and project-based learning philosophies.
Our staff is comprised of coaches who have decades of experience as main-stream educators and sports coaches. Because of this, we have been able to create a program that uses exploration and movement to help young people develop a deeper learning about social issue topics and empower youth to take control of their own education.
The UKSD Projects Through Play model allows UKSD coaches to work alongside and facilitate programs with students and educators while they design and create their own projects and social awareness initiatives.
We believe that our methodology not only helps build life skills and social awareness, but it also empowers participants to create and sustain their own projects.
Using the UKSD Experiential Education model, we use sports, movement, games, and fun activities to help high school aged students create their own projects.
In conjunction with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we help young people learn about social issues that they are most passionate about before taking them through the process of creating and developing their own projects to help communities throughout the world.
We strongly believe that young people across the globe want to create positive change and share similar social concerns about the world that they live in.
We have found that sports are a valuable tool to break down social barriers and form strong connections among youth, regardless of their background.
We use this shared interest as a building block to connect adolescents from across the globe, either virtually or in-person, and create an environment where they can share ideas and formulate plans to collaborate so they can create projects that have a global impact.
As coaches and educators, we are always trying to find new ways to ensure that the young people we work with are fully engaged and are preparing themselves for the future.
Due to the success of our program for over a decade and witnessing, first hand, the positive impact that our initiatives have had on the young people we work with, we have developed a process for schools and youth groups to embrace our philosophy into their own organizations.
Our team works diligently with members of organizational groups to create deeper levels of knowledge and understanding of social and emotional needs and skills, development of leadership traits, and explore how active citizenship can increase engagement and motivation, while also meeting organizational curriculum needs through a holistic approach to learning and teaching.
What we do
Through sports and movement, UKSD focuses on educating our participants about social issues that affect young people both locally and across the globe. These points of education are aligned with topics from the U.N. sustainable development goals. It is our mission to educate and create leadership opportunities through community service projects based on the topics below, in an effort for our members to become leaders and be the change they wish to see in the world.
